The OCAF held its first
awareness event at the Cordova Crafts Fair. During the two
day event we handed out over 650 awareness items with the
symptoms, risk factors and facts about ovarian cancer.
Jewelry designer, Stacy Carraway, previewed her “Teal &
Brown” collection, made specifically for us with proceeds
going to the OCAF.
Other available products were awareness ribbons, pins,
bookmarks, cookies & candy.
Memphis Mayoral candidate, Carol Chumney stopped by. Two
members of her staff came by a little earlier and we gave
them our business cards with a teal ribbon pin attached.
About an hour later she stopped by. We were excited to see
her wearing our teal ribbon pin. It was a pleasure to meet
her. We were glad she took time out of her busy schedule to
stop by and show her support for ovarian cancer.
Our 1st event couldn’t have gone any better. Next year, we
will have twice the booth space, new OCAF products and look
forward to passing out twice the number of awareness items.

Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church
celebrates women during the month of October. The timing was
perfect for the OCAF. While at the Cordova Crafts Fair a
member of the Church stopped by and asked if we would give a
presentation on “ovarian cancer.” What a blessing!
Twenty-five wonderful women are now aware of the symptoms,
risk factors and facts about ovarian cancer.
We would like to thank Daisy Little, Veronica Mitchell,
Lashell Vaughn, and the women of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church
for their hospitality, kindness and the opportunity to share
this vital information.

Lunch & Learn
MATCU
The Memphis Area Teacher’s Credit
Union held a Lunch & Learn for the OCAF on October 18, 2006.
It was a learning experience for all of us. This was the 1st
Lunch & Learn presentation for the OCAF and for many of the
women it was the first time they had heard about ovarian
cancer.
Tena Swatzyna, a Survivor of ovarian cancer and the reason
the OCAF was Founded, spoke to the women about her own
experiences with the disease. She talked about her symptoms,
surgeries, ports, her treatment, hair loss, weight gain,
genetic testing, and keeping a positive attitude and outlook
on life.
We would like to thank Renee Clark & Judy Bell for the
opportunity to educate and raise awareness about ovarian
cancer.
